Communications Problems lead women with HIV to Switch Clinicians
Filed Under Patient Satisfaction, Reasons Patients Leave | Leave a Comment
This article by Charles Swartz, dense with statistics, documents the large effect that communications has on patients’ perception of getting good care. In particular, they say 433 women (60%) switched clinicians during treatment for HIV, and 292 of these 433 (43%) switched because of poor communication with their provider.
Here’s the net: if your patients are concerned that you’re not sensitive to their culture, language, and ethnicity, you’ve got a 50% chance they’re going to leave.
